How do I know if my personal glasses meet the safety standards for work?
All safety eyewear must be approved and compliant with the CSA Standard Z94.3-07.
Frames and lenses must pass rigorous testing before they are approved for use as safety eyewear. All safety frames must bear either a Z87, Z87-2 or CSA Z94.3 mark on the inside of each temple.
Prescription safety lenses must bear the manufacturer's logo monogrammed on the top temporal corner of each lens.
Will the use of clip-on side shields make my personal glasses
safe for work?
No. After market clip-on side shield protection is not compliant with CSA guidelines. Effective Dec. 1st, 2007 approved safety frames must now have permanent side shield protection.
Are hardened glass lenses safe to use on the job?
No. Approved safety lens materials are CR39 plastic, polycarbonate and trivex.
Glass lenses do not meet CSA lens impact requirements and are therefore not compliant.
